MY WHY vs. WHY NOT

I would like to share MY WHY vs. WHY NOT with you. Every human is unique and women are no different. Some women need more than others. Simple but true. It is easy to think that I am happy, but the truth is I need more.

Communication is KEY – My Why vs. Why Not

my-why-vs-why-not

Everyone communicates differently. Some better than others and some not at all. As a young girl, I communicated with my athletic ability. Being an awesome athlete I starting playing softball at 8 and played until I was 19. No bragging but I left others speechless on the softball field, volley ball court and even the dirt bike track. Not only a talented tomboy but I had long red hair in a ponytail. I had many friends but few close friends. We talked all of the time.

Today, as an adult woman, I need to be communicated with. I need to know that someone cares. And I need down to earth conservations. Those are rare. These are the beginning of the discovery of my why vs. why not.

Support – My Why vs. Why Not

When I was young, I had tons of support. Lots of my friends were athletes, some not. I was active in the church. I was able to go through Girl Scouts from the age of 8-17 with a tight group of 12 girls. We did everything together. I think I earned every badge I could with the exception of basket weaving. We visited the local nursing home to spend time with the elderly, we did community service projects and every year I earned a week at Girl Scout Summer Camp by selling the most Girl Scout Cookies!!

My Why vs. Why Not

This was great! Except for that one time—I was standing in the batters’ box on the softball field and I remember a bat. It came right for me. Knocked me in the head. When I woke up, the camp nurse said I had a concussion and not to move.

Man! My head was pounding for days. I remember being angry because I missed a hike that everyone went on without me. I will not share the story of when I got kicked out out Girl Scouts but my parents had to drive three hours to come get me. That was a long ride home!! I guess this began my love for wine; although I had no clue about Fine Wines. Have you ever heard of Tickled Pink? Enough said.

Dreams – My Why vs. Why Not

My parents were great! They were business owners and taught me a great work ethic. I often watched my friends get new things but my Dad would say, “If you want something, you have to work for it. Work hard and save your money.” My parents taught me to be independent and never to depend on anyone.

Never learned to DREAM. Not only was I the middle child, right in the middle of two brothers, but the only girl. I was never spoiled but my Mom would help find a way to always get what I needed. I never had many Wants. My parents never spent money just because they wanted something. I remember this couch in their home. My Dad said they bought in when they got married in 1957. Do you know I put that thing on the curb the day I cleaned out their home in 1999! I know it was recovered twice that I remember.

Entrepreneurship – It’s In My Blood

My Grandfather came to this country in 1905 from Lebanon. He was only 17. Due to the war in Turkey, his mom put he and his half-brother on a cargo ship and they set sail for Mexico. I believe he may have been searching for his -my why vs. why not.

The family story goes like this. . . the two boys hiked, hitch-hiked, rode a train across Mexico and finally came to El Paso, TX. My Grandfather changed his name at the border, applied for US Citizenship and began his journey to my hometown of Clarksville, TX. Only a 12 hour drive from El Paso if your are driving 70 miles per hour. My Grandfather opened the General Store next to the train track in town. He knew that people arrived in town there and they would need food and supplies.

My parents owned a hardware store downtown on the square. This could have been their my-why-vs-why-not. There were 10,000 people there as I was growing up. Less than half of that now.

In conclusion, I will say that we always don’t get what we want. Sometimes we don’t even want what we have. You must continue to Dream, Wish, and Work for what you want. Know what you are working towards: my-why-vs-why-not. Never give up. Never Quit!
